[Feature Request] Subtitle selection for PlayStation

Plex Web App, Plex for Roku, Plex for SmartTV have the ability to select which subtitles we want to use during playback. Unfortunately this is not possible with PS4 application (version 1.40) and PS3 application (version 1.41). By default it selects subtitles matching the language set as default in Plex Media Server, however this brings two issues.

First issue, we can't decide which subtitle stream we want to use when we have several external SRT files.

Second issue, if we have subtitles selected by default the content will be transcoded for almost all formats for PlayStation. If you use Plex Media Station on some budget NAS devices then you will get an error that "This server is not powerful enough to convert video" (transcode). Ability to disable subtitles would come in handy for those situations.
Without this I need to manually go to Plex Media Server to turn off default subtitle language or remove SRT files from the NAS disk.

It would be great if there would be playback settings button or vid/aud/sub stream selection like on Roku and SmartTV apps.

Tested on Plex Media Server 2.13.3

Have you broken/ended support for PS3 version 1.0 ?

Seemingly out of the blue a few weeks ago we stopped being able to use Plex on the PS3, and that was our seamless entertainment evenings all over.

Here's what happens now (we're stuck on version 1.0), I select the Plex app, cancel the 1.01 update, sign in, cancel the update again, and this is where it used to just work. Now we get a black overlay that says

"Sorry, there appears to be a problem connecting. Please try again later".

I press OK, and then I get a Plex screen that says

"Oops; a 404 error...That's "page not found" in human language. You may have mistyped the address or the page may have moved. Let us take you to the main page and we can start all over agin, shall we?"

I can log in on my PS4 (using the 1.01 version) and my Roku in my bedroom, I can log in on iPad, and on my iMac using Plex Web and Plex Media Player. Plex Media Server (and all media) is on a Synology, and everything else Plex is working beautifully as it has for ever.

But in the living room, where the main (ancient) TV and the surround sound are, where we do all our watching, our only way to access Plex is via the PS3, and its now bust.

We can't upgrade to version 1.01, because our fantastically old (but epic) Sony 60 inch (widescreen but non HD) clearly isn't supported because the aspect ratio is all wrong on everything in 1.01, but luckily I found out how to downgrade.

Further trouble is that the vast majority of our media isn't supported via the Plex DLNA client, so we have to watch things via the Synology Diskstation DLNA but then 5.1 isn't supported so we're watching everything in stereo (aside from when I re-encode things specifically to work).

What used to work for us so well suddenly stopped. And it's a pain frankly.

I realise this may not be a top of the pile issue for anyone, as I know we must be one of the last people on the planet stuck with a non HD TV using PS3 (entirely as a media player), but in the hope that there may literally be a button press at your end (one can dream) I've decided to finally mention it.

In the meantime, before anyone feels too desperately sorry for us (!) we've finally got our eye on the prize of a new 65 inch 4K set for downstairs this year, having put up with the beast downstairs through the inability to upgrade, and then the decision to wait and go straight to 4K, but waiting for it to become affordable.

Upgraded server to v1.4.3.3433, now Movies show " error: 'undefined' code: '-2140536828' " on PS4

I've tried 10 different movies since upgrading my server this afternoon, I am 10/10 with error code.

Reinstalled Plex on the PS4.
Downloaded Server software and ran a repair on the install.
Rebooted server.
Enabling and Disabling DNLA.
Rolling back to an older version of server (1.3.4.3285-b46e0ea).
Enabling and disabling direct play and direct stream.
Enabling and disabling Subtitles.
Server is a Win 7 Ult. box

TV shows appear to play without issue so far, only movies seem to fail.

Movies I have played without issue on Plex before update are all failing to play.
I can provide more logging if needed. I did successfully get 1 movie out of the last 20+ to play.

Here is a fresh verbose log capture with 3 failed movie attempts.

No files playing on PS4

server got disconnected (unbeknownst to me), i ended up uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of plex on the ps4. Now, when I try to play anything I get the undefined error code "Undefined error -2140536828" and nothing plays. I've read a few threads about the issue having to do with subtitles, but most of these shouldn't have subtitles? i don't have the access to manipulate the files themselves... is there any option for me or has plex basically been rendered useless for me? un

PS4 AAC 7.1

Can the PS4 play AAC 7.1 directly or is this yet again another Sony limitation? To me it seems rather weird that they would support AAC 5.1 and not 7.1.

My 7.1 audio is being transcoded and it sounds like crap... tinny.

Repeatedly have to re-establish PS4 link to plex account

With the latest version for PS4, EVERY TIME I power up my PS4 I have to sign it back into my Plex account. This never happened with prior versions, Plex remembered and just logged back into my Plex account. Now every time I sit down to watch some content off my PMS, I have to have a laptop or tablet handy to go to plex.tv/link and enter the 4 digit code. EVERY TIME.

Please HELP Plex devs!!!

Multiple PS4 users with the same Plex sign-in? Why?

Hi,

First - I really love Plex and use it almost for anything on all my devices. However there is one thing I completely don't understand. And this is for me kind of security breach!? I got 2 PSN users on my PS4 console. Me and my son. ALL the games, YouTube etc have their own settings depending on which user I log in PS4.

So when my son logs in to PSN to his account and he starts YouTube he is on his YouTube account. When I log in to PSN on PS4 and I start YouTube on PS4 I see my YouTube settings.

Why on earth Plex is sharing the settings for log-in? What is the logic here? I completetly can not undestand it. My son has his own Plex account. I got my own Plex account. PS4 with Plex is USELESS because for some mysterious reason I have to have the same credentials for Plex login on both PSN accounts I log in on PS4.

Or am I doing something wrong?

PS4 Pro support?

Are there any plans to support 10-bit H.265 video (and mkv container) in the Playstation app when PS4 Pro releases? I would love to use Plex on my PS4 Pro to Direct Play/Direct Stream all of my 4k media instead of using the Plex app on my Samsung TV. My computer cannot handle transcoding 4k files.

play/pause menu showing sporadically

Hi,

On my PS3 when watching a movie/TV Show the play/pause menu will flash on screen, last a second then disappear. This will happen approximately every few minutes. It will occur even thought no buttons are pressed and occurs when the controllers have been switched off. Is there a know issue about this or is there a setting i have missed?

PSVR 360 video support works, needs improvement

I'm impressed. I was able to watch 360 videos on my plex server using the Sony Media Player app. Not perfect yet and many video formats not supported (by PSVR). It will be really great when I can use VR mode in PLEX app on PS4 to watch my 360 home videos that I store on the server. Especially if PLEX can optimize videos for PSVR

Crash CE-34878-0

This CE-34878-0 happens once every few episodes. Always when I am in the menu.
I know this is a playstation related problem, but I don't have any other games where this happens.
Already tried reinstalling but the problem persists.

Any suggestions ?

Plex on PS4 24p support

I just started using PLEX on my PS4. I usually use a Raspberry PI with Kodi, but would like to use PLEX on my PS4 so i could ditch the RPI. When i start a file from KODI my tv switches to 24p mode. With PLEX on the PS4 i just keeps to the 60Hz. I did search the forum and found some threads about it but not really a defintive answer. I did find one on the XBOX where it stated that 24p playback is limited to the bluray player. Is this the same for PS4? How, in that case, does anybody use plex on a PS4? Do you just watch your files in 60Hz playback or is there a workaround?
Thanks in advance and sorry if i missed a thread about this particular issue as it seems there are a lot of 24p-related threads.

Plex 1.40 on PS4 refuses to use Custom server access URLs?

A PS3 (1.41) in the same location on the same internet connects via the Custom server access URLs perfectly fine.

All other devices running plex in use with this server have no trouble.

PS4 Plex not responsive and Plex says buffering with H.265 and AC3

I have a file that is H.265 and has an AAC 7.1 and AC3 5.1 audio track

The AAC7.1 and H.265 play within seconds of hitting play and the H.265 is transcoded to H.264 and AAC7.1 to 5.1

Now if I select the AC3 audio. I get plex says buffering and it is transcoding H.265 to H.264 and says it is direct streaming to the PS4. No it is not processor issue as my server only running at 35% occupied while transcoding and it can transcode both video and audio with AAC just fine.

I copied the audio track to a standalone file vlc plays it no issues and MediaInfo correctly identifies it.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot? Has anyone seen this?

One television series not playing audio on PS4

Hey guys,

I'm streaming Twilight Zone from a windows PC to my Playstation 4, but the audio isnt coming across. It works when I play through plex on the computer. While playing the episodes, the settings state the audio is Unknown (MP3 mono)
It's the first time this has happened and I've been using plex for about a year now.

Anyway I can fix this?

Was quick FF+REW using R+L Buttons removed?

Did a recent update remove the fast forward and rewind functionality from the R+L buttons? It's annoying to have to press X, move over one way or the other, press X again, than move back and hit X one final time to play again. Or I screw up my spot by jumping wayy too far with the left joystick.

Honestly, I wish I could disable the left joystick and reenable the L/R buttons. I'm constantly skipping to a random spot in when I blindly grab at the controller and hit the joystick by accident. Then I need to spend a minute searching getting back to where I was... It's made more difficult by the fact that I can never tell if I jumped 30 seconds ahead or like 10 minutes.

Hello, this has been a problem since launch on plex for ps4.. everytime i go to recently added videos on main meny on plex for ps4, it crashes, why has this not been patched?

Plex not casting to PS4

Hi,

I've taken my PS4 to my parent's house over the Christmas break and I'm having troubles using my phone to cast to the PS4. I've tried this on 2 android phones, an android tablet and even the web browser through firefox. All devices are on the same wifi network so I don't know why this isn't working. None of them find the PS4 at all. Is there something I'm doing wrong or does this only work over a wired connection? Hopefully this won't just stop working once I go back home.

Plex for PS4 remote stream to Playstation TV?

Hi all

I have read, that Plex is not available for PS VIta or PSTV. But could you not make it compatible with remote play? In this way we could use PS4 Link on PSTV and start plex remote on the PS4.

I tried that yesterday on my PSTV, but it is not able to show the display when plex app is open in remote via PS4 to PSTV. :-(

I mean we dont need an extra App for PSVita or PSTV but the remote capabilitie to view the plex content on PSTV via the PS4Link App on the PSTV.

On the Vita the App is named PS4 remote play but its the same as on PSTV which is named PS4Link.

After i connected to my PS4 in the local Network via LAN from my PSTV and started the Plex APP, i just got an white screen and the message, that the display couldn't be streamed.

This would be really nice if we could use the Plex APP via remote on the PS Vita or PSTV. I have that small PSTV device nearly always with me and it would be so nice to use plex on a Big TV with PSTV when im not at home.
